Our CS:GO team has broken into the top eight at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca after seeing off a resilient mousesports by a 2-1 scoreline in the decider match of Group B. This not only means that the team has managed to repeat the playoff appearance from ESL One Cologne but also that it has secured a spot at the first major of 2016!
de_mirage was played at a frantic pace from the start, but we were the ones who came out the livelier. After holding down the A site really well during the pistol round, we remained in control during the following two anti-ecos, the first of which saw jkaem pick up an ace with the P90 in the apartment area.
mousesports then managed to get some rounds and equalised the score at 3-3, but Maikelele crushed their winning streak with a sensational 1vs4 clutch. mouz then won five rounds straight but we solved our defense and closed out the half with a narrow 7-8 deficit.
We got off to a great start in overtime, picking up the first two rounds, but some miscoordination on our part allowed mousesports to pull back. Still, we continued to pour forward, and fox’s insane quad kill with the AWP in the first round as CT gave the team the boost they needed to win the map.
The second map was de_inferno, where we had defeated mousesports on the first day of the tournament. This time around, the German team came into the match much better prepared, despite the fact that only one round separated the two sides at half-time. The first round of the second half was taken by us, but history repeated itself and we were once again surprised by mouz on eco. When it was time to buy up, we were able to rescue a couple of rounds, but mousesports showed incredible coordination and levelled the tie with a well-earned victory!
It all came down to de_cache, the final map of this nail-biting series. We were on top for most of the first half and we looked simply dominant during the early stages of the game, forcing mousesports to call a timeout when they were down 0-8. It was only then that mouz managed to pick up a round, but we responded immediately after thanks to a great quad kill by jkaem, who was simply on fire. We were able to close out the half with an 11-4 lead, and the players felt that this was their match to lose.
A triple kill from chrisJ in the pistol round gave mousesports some hope, but then we gave them a taste of their own medicine and won the following round on eco. That ended up being the final blow to mousesports’ chances as we also secured the next four rounds to seal a 16-5 victory and advance to the quarter-finals, where we will face Virtus.pro.
