G2.Kinguin advances to DH Cluj semi-finals!

Our CS:GO team is through to the semi-finals of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca after seeing off Virtus.pro by a 2-0 scoreline. This means that we have secured a top-four finish in the major and a payout of at least $22,000.

Today is a historic day for G2 esports as our CS:GO team has secured a top-four finish at DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca after defeating Virtus.pro 2-0 in a hard-fought game. This is the highest finish at a major for the team, which will take on EnVyUs on Sunday for a spot in the grand final.

The opening map of the best-of-three series was de_cache, where we took some time to get into the game. After trailing 4-0, we managed to pick up a round on a force buy to prevent the game from spiralling out of control. We continued to surge forward and put pressure on Virtus.pro’s defense, and parity was soon restored at 5-5.

In the 11th round, jkaem – who would be the MVP of the match – put the team in the lead with a great triple kill in the A bombsite. The rest of the half went back and forth, but in the end we held down an 8-7 lead. In the following pistol round, Virtus.pro went for an A push and covered the site with some great smokes, but we pulled through the defuse the bomb in the nick of time.

A third-round buy by Virtus.pro proved successful and allowed the Polish team to close the gap to 9-10, but jkaem kept them at bay with a series of impressive rounds. He and fox completely shut down the B site, which resulted in a 16-10 victory for us and a 1-0 lead in the series.

The map that followed was de_train, where we got off to a flying start, winning nine of the first 11 rounds. But Virtus.pro proved why they are a side who should never be written off and won the final four rounds of the half to set the score at 9-6. In the pistol round as Terrorist, we went for an A push, and while things looked bleak for us for a moment, Maikelele and fox kept their composure and won the round in convincing fashion.

We went on to win the following two anti-ecos, which propelled us into a commanding 12-6 lead. This was when Virtus.pro’s defense came to life and a series of rounds went our opponents’ way. With the scoreline 15-13 in Virtus.pro’s favor, the threat of a third map loomed, but we picked ourselves up in the final stages and took the game to overtime. Despite starting off on the Terrorist side, we were able to take a 2-1 lead into the second half, where we simply dominated the map.
