We are excited to welcome Fabian ‘GrabbZ’ Lohmann – pending Riot Games approval – as our new League of Legends Head Coach. Last week we presented our League of Legends roster led by our long-standing and legendary Croatian mid laner, the fearsome Luka ‘Perkz’ Perkovic. On the 2018 domination quest he’s joined by jungler and European First Blood King Marcin ‘Jankos’ Jankowski, the G2-kingslayer bot lane AD carry Petter ‘Hjarnan’ Freyschuss and support Bae-in ‘Wadid’ Kim as well our very own viking stronghold, top laner Martin ‘Wunder’ Hansen.
We put a lot of thought into the Head Coach selection process and are very happy with picking GrabbZ as the one to lead our team to domestic and, more importantly, international success. He has full trust from G2 Esports and we can’t wait to see him rocking a new suit on the LCS stage.
Here is what G2 Esports CEO Carlos ‘ocelote’ Rodriguez said about having GrabbZ with us:
“The things that I value the most in a Head Coach is firm belief in success, adaptive thinking, thorough planning and great ambition. I’ve seen the way GrabbZ interacts with the players and creative approach he brings on the table. He is well-organized, experienced and has a great attention to detail. I am sure that GrabbZ will play an important role molding the new team into a strong fist that will once again smash the opposition in Europe and reach for the international success. I know that Fabian is ready to give his best and we will be sure to give all the tools he needs to lead our new roster to victories.”
On his behalf, GrabbZ shared that G2 Esports was the one organization for which he’d gladly trade Los Angeles sun and palm trees:
“I am delighted to announce that I will be part of G2 Esports from next year going forward. From the first conversation I could tell that G2 Esports philosophy aligns with my personal one, especially in topics like ambition and discipline. Joining was not only easy from the sportive aspect of G2 winning four consecutive EU LCS championships, but I truly believe that this organization will support me in implementing my own coaching-style. I’m glad to be relieved of the boundaries that I had before.
I am looking forward to seeing how fast we can overcome the smaller issues every new roster has to fight and to develop our own distinctive style of play. The opportunity of being in a position where I can help five experienced and highly skilled players to grow individually, as a unit, and also on a personal level, is rare and not given to everyone. I will give my all to satisfy the team and our fans. For some it might come as a surprise as until today I only coached less successful teams but I am up for the challenge and I am looking forward to achieving greatness with this stacked roster. Together we will provide the entirety of the #G2ARMY with lots of memorable moments for seasons to come.“
Our new Head Coach GrabbZ is born and raised in Wolfsburg, Germany. That’s where he was living until he finished school at the age of 17. After that he moved to Berlin to study Economy at the Humboldt University Berlin.
Fabian started following the professional League of Legends scene since Season 1. But only after a while he thought of pursuing career within esports himself. “I started thinking about it when I was 18-19 as I lacked competition after quitting football when I was about to finish school,” – he says. Up until today GrabbZ’s biggest interests are League of Legends and football.
His esports journey began as an analyst with Unicorns of Love. After a split he switched to Giants Gaming. Followed by two splits of analyst work in April 2016, GrabbZ joined ROCCAT as a coach where he worked until he joined G2 Esports. Fabian fluently speaks English, German and Spanish.
