G2 Esports today announces that Cédric “RpK” Guipouy is unable to compete in the remainder of ELEAGUE due to health issues. After complaining of severe pain in his right ear, Cédric visited a specialist, who diagnosed a perforated eardrum. While the problem will most likely not require surgery, Cédric has been told that he should begin a period of rest to give his ear time to heal. He has been advised not to fly during the next weeks to avoid aggravating the problem further, effectively ruling him out of the remainder of ELEAGUE, which is held in Atlanta.
Upon learning of the situation, we informed ELEAGUE about the necessity of fielding a substitute player. Simon “Fuks” Florysiak, one of the two substitute players that we submitted at the start of the season, will be playing for the team in the tournament, starting with the last-chance qualifier, which begins on Wednesday.
Simon is a former teammate of Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro on LDLC. We are confident that he will acquit himself really well and help our team as we look to secure a spot in the ELEAGUE playoffs. Below you can read his statement about playing for G2 in Atlanta:
“It is an honor to make the trip with G2 for ELEAGUE. I know it will be hard for me to do as well as RpK, but I have worked hard to be in shape for this tournament. This is also an opportunity for me to show what I can do, and I will do my best to help the team. Maybe RpK’s stickers will also make me a TANK!”
Jérôme “NiaK” Sudries, the team’s manager, also gave a statement about this change, saying:
“We thought that Fuks had the profile that we desired for this situation. We were looking for a French-speaking player who has played the same role and positions as RpK. With the experience he has gained in LDLC, alongside players like bodyy, Simon has an interesting background, and I am pretty sure that he will be a good addition to the team for this tournament.”
