CS:GO team update – NBK- to try out as the team leader

We are introducing new G2 Esports CS:GO team structure with NBK- as the team captain, for a trial period.

G2 Esports is proud of its transparency and staying true to its principles and goals. Everyone in G2 Esports, staff and fans alike, give their all to support and facilitate our teams’ best performance and, of course, victories. It’s not a secret that we haven’t been content about our CS:GO team’s performance and lack of consistency lately. We know that this lineup had the potential to be the best in the world, although so far there’s been a struggle to find the key to keep performance steady long-term, which has always been the main goal since the team’s inception.

Watch G2 Esports CEO Carlos ‘ocelote’ Rodriguez address the changes and offer more insight on the current situation:

After many weeks of self-reflection and careful research, we are confident that we have managed to find the best possible solution, considering all variables in play such as fairness towards all players affected and greater chances for competitive success moving forward. As of yesterday, we are transitioning Nathan ‘NBK-’ Schmitt to the role of in-game leader.

Oscar ‘mixwell’ Cañellas to replace shox in G2 starting roster

Spanish CS:GO player Oscar ‘mixwell’ Cañellas is set to join G2 Esports on a trial basis. He is currently playing as a part of the Spanish team “Wololos” at WESG in China and will start practicing with G2 Esports as soon as his run at WESG has concluded. Richard ‘shox’ Papillon will remain as interim 5th player for all official games until mixwell takes over, allowing shox to prepare for his impending wrist surgery and recovery, without any added pressure. Once mixwell joins the team, shox will no longer be a part of the starting roster.

mixwell was carefully picked by G2 as a good fit for our roster due to his flexibility and all-rounder profile along with his ability to play both the rifler and sniper roles.

Change to coaching staff

As per his own request, G2 Esports’ team coach Edouard ‘SmithZz’ Dubourdeaux will step down from his role indefinitely, returning to practice and improve as a player, after expressing his desire to return to competitive play.

Effective immediately, G2 Esports CS:GO manager Jerome ‘NiaK’ Sudries will become the team coach, assisted by team’s analyst Niclas ‘enkay J’ Krumhorn, who will be taking care of technical coach responsibilities. We have taken into account the impressive track record of NiaK in VeryGames, Titan, and the first French iteration in G2 Esports, as well as his hard work, talent management experience, and dedication towards his job and G2.

During the trial period both SmithZz and shox will stay a part of G2 Esports

The team has different visions internally of how the performances could be improving and after speaking to each member individually and all of them together, it was agreed that NBK- for now will try to take the lead, as he was always curious to test his leader ability.

shox suggested a more drastic team change and we would like to explore more moderate options before implementing any major roster switches. Team’s performance and dynamic in the upcoming months will be a primary criterium deciding the future starting five of G2 Esports CS:GO squad, potential NBK-’s leadership or shox’ return.
