The draw for the 2016 League of Legends World Championship group stage has been made. G2 will face LCK champions ROX Tigers, North American second seed CLG and International Wildcard team Albus NoX Luna in Group A.
The competition will run from September 29 to October 29 in four different cities across the United States, starting with San Francisco, where the group stage matches will be held.
Below is a brief description of G2’s group stage opponents:
- ROX Tigers: The Korean giants are no strangers to competing at the World Championship. Last season, they finished in second place, losing out to SK Telecom T1 in the finals. They head into this event on the back of a first-place finish at the LCK 2016 Summer Playoffs.
- CLG: This is CLG’s fourth time at a World Championship, following appearances in seasons 1,2 and 5. Despite finishing fourth in the NA Summer Split, CLG still qualified for Worlds based on season circuit points. The team attended the 2016 Mid-Season Invitational, where they came in second place, beating our team twice in the round-robin stage.
- Albus NoX Luna: This is the first time that Albus NoX Luna will play at a World Championship. Formerly known as Hard Random, the CIS team won the LCL Summer playoffs and finished top two at the International Wildcard Qualifier, this way securing a spot at Worlds.
